The Tongue

There is evil in our midst
And it comes from up the top
We seem to love it so
And it always goes nonstop
Is there any way to tame
This tiny little prop?

When it’s used to tell a lie
‘Bout someone we can hurt.
We will hate that person so
And we’ll really spread the dirt.
You see, we understand
We want to think the worst.

I’m sure we know it’s true
We’ve had it done to us
The pain we do go through
It’s not superfluous
If we know how we would feel
No treating others thus.

Then there is the flattering
That is worse than dung
For what would we gain from it
This should not be done
The member that offends?
Doubtless, it’s the tongue!

Pro 26:28 A lying tongue hateth those that are afflicted by it; and a flattering mouth worketh ruin.
